Health and safety image

Fire Risk Assessment Consultancy, UK Ltd (hereafter referred to as FRAC) recognises that a good health & safety management has positive benefits to every organisation. A commitment to developing a high level of safety makes good business sense and a coherent safety management system will be therefore developed, to ensure the safety of staff and others.

The performance of both individuals and the organisation will be monitored to pre-determined standards. The managing director will have lead responsibility for this process and the following will form the core principles for managing health and safety within the organisation:

1.A positive safety culture, which is actively and visibly supported by management, will be encouraged throughout the organisation. Equal importance will be given to achieving health and safety targets, as with all other business targets and its performance will be monitored. Resources in the form of finance, equipment, personnel and time will be provided. Adequate arrangements for ensuring the health and safety of any visitors will be developed and external agencies will be consulted where necessary.

2.The requirements set by statutes, regulations, codes of practice, guidance and best practice will be met at all times. Where possible, we will adopt systems that exceed those standards. Ensuring the continual improvement to health and safety standards and performance are a mandatory requirement for all staff.

3.Health and safety management is an integral part of the manager's function, integrated into management duties and the decision-making processes. Managers have specific duties and responsibilities to comply with this and all other council policies, and to ensure that systems of work and supervision are designed to take account of all health and safety risks.

4.The approach to health and safety will be based on the identification and control of risks.

5.Appropriate systems will be developed and maintained for the effective communication of health and safety matters. Employees will be provided with a consultation and discussion process during decision-making either on an individual basis or through their representatives, where applicable.

6.Information, instruction and training will be provided to employees and others, including temporary staff to ensure competency and safe performance of duties.

7.Systems will be developed to ensure that incidents and 'near-misses' are reported, analysed and investigated, to provide information for future planning, so that action can be taken to reduce a re-occurrence.

8.Procedures will be established to ensure that safe equipment and plant are provided and maintained for employees and non-employees.

9.Employees have specific responsibilities to support management in their activities and to take care of themselves and others who could be affected by their activities. Safety is the responsibility of everyone within the organisation.

10. Arrangements for the effective planning, development and review of this policy
statement, and other safety arrangements will be clearly stated in supporting documents.

Effective management of health and safety can only be achieved by a co-operative effort at all levels in the organisation.

There is nothing we do, that warrants someone’s safety being placed at undue risk.
